The Victorian Government is investing $4.9 million to develop a new 15-bed residential aged care wing at the Golden Oaks Nursing Home in Bendigo.
The new wing will allow the majority of residents to move from dual occupancy to single rooms, improving privacy and a sense of independence.
Refurbishments to the existing facility are also planned, giving residents more private and comfortable bedrooms. Upgrades to the dining room and kitchen will allow for meals to be cooked fresh onsite.
The stage two redevelopment was made possible via a $4.9 million contribution from the Victorian Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund. The $350 million fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history. It is rebuilding regional and rural infrastructure to ensure Victorians can access the high-quality care and facilities they need, no matter where they live.

Golden Oaks Nursing Home can currently house 60 residents in shared accommodation. Four single rooms are available for residents with special requirements.
Stage two is expected to be completed in late 2020 and includes:
construction of an additional 15-bed wing
addition of ensuites
renovated dining and serving area
upgraded kitchen.
The stage two works form part of an overall plan to redevelop the Golden Square aged care precinct.
Stage one was completed in 2018 by Bendigo Health. These included the creation of a large space linking Golden Oaks Nursing Home and Carshalton House Hostel. The shared facilities include a new lifestyle room with cinema, café, reception and office space. A nine-bed area for residents needing higher level care was also upgraded.
The new 15-bed wing will convert the Golden Oaks Nursing Home from a largely double bed room facility to a majority single bed facility. With the addition of ensuites and a general refurbishment, the redeveloped nursing home will offer improved privacy, dignity and independence.
Better dining and kitchen facilities
The renovated dining and serving area will provide a pleasant space for residents to take their meals. With an upgrade to the kitchen, residents will be able to enjoy fresh cooked food prepared onsite.
Jobs boost
The local community will benefit from ten new jobs being created during the construction of phase two.
