New sub-acute ward opens at Swan Hill District Health

13 August 2019

More Swan Hill patients will be able to get back on their feet faster after a hospital stay thanks to the opening of a new sub-acute ward at Swan Hill District Health.

Sub-acute care is for people who are not severely ill but who need support and rehabilitation.

The new $2.6 million ward provides an extra 14 beds so patients can get the care they need to recover from illness or injury and learn how to live independently at home.

Rehabilitation care delivered from the new ward includes general inpatient rehabilitation services, geriatric evaluation and management services and transitional care beds.

The sub-acute ward provides seamless, patient-centred care - from the hospital bed to the home - through the very best rehabilitation therapies.

Funded through the Regional Health infrastructure Fund, the new sub-acute ward is part of a $350 million investment by the Victorian Government.

The largest of its kind in Victorian history, the fund provides vital upgrades for regional and rural hospitals, ensuring Victorians can access the high-quality care and facilities they need, no matter where they live.
